“Integrated Ecosystem Approaches for Megafauna Life: Advancing Future Marine Research and Conservation”
Banda Aceh, August 29, 2025 | The International Seminar Friend of The Sea 2025 with the theme “Integrated Ecosystem Approaches for Megafauna Life: Advancing Future Marine Research and Conservation” was successfully held on Friday, August 29, 2025, at the Auditorium Dr. Ir. M. Ridha, M.Eng, TDMRC Building, Universitas Syiah Kuala.
This prestigious event brought together international and national experts to share knowledge and perspectives on marine research and conservation, particularly focusing on megafauna life.
The seminar featured inspiring presentations from: Dr. Hollie Booth (University of Oxford, Yayasan Kebersamaan Untuk Lautan), Francesca Page (Francesca Page Art), Liam Webb (Wildlife Photographer & Filmmaker), Isabel Black, MSc (University of Oxford, Zoological Society of London), Dr. Irma Dewiyanti, S.Pi., M.Sc. (Universitas Syiah Kuala), Adela Hemelikova, MSc (Liberec Zoo, Czech University of Life Sciences Prague).
The welcoming remarks were delivered by Dr. Haekal Azief Haridhi, S.Kel., M.Sc., Ph.D. – Coordinator of Marine Science Department, Universitas Syiah Kuala. Report on the activity by Mutia Ramadhaniaty, S.Kel., M.Si. – Chairwoman of Friend of The Sea.
In addition to the seminar, the winners of the International Student Competition were also announced, showcasing the creativity and innovation of young scholars in addressing challenges in marine conservation. Congratulations to all the winners for their outstanding achievements!
The event was organized by the Marine Science Department (PSIKL) in collaboration with HIMIKA and supported by International Sea Turtle Society (ISTS).
Through this event, Universitas Syiah Kuala reaffirms its commitment to advancing marine science research, fostering collaboration, and inspiring the younger generation to take part in protecting the future of our oceans.
